Traffic but no sales on Shopify: which step loses the visit
On a Shopify store, find the step that loses the visit by following sessions from category to product, cart, checkout and thank-you page, then read the heatmap and recordings where they stop. Shopify's own report comes first: in the admin, go to Analytics, then Reports, and open Conversion rate breakdown, which counts all sessions, sessions with cart additions, sessions that reached checkout and sessions that completed checkout.
Orders, then Abandoned checkouts, lists checkouts left incomplete for more than ten minutes after the customer gave an email, and keeps them three months. Shopify rolled out new session measurement from September 21 to 23, 2026, so compare conversion rates across that date with care.

Start a 14-day Plerdy trial →Set the store funnel: category, product, cart, order, thank-you
Shopify's report gives four steps; a funnel in a behavior tool shows the page behind each drop. Plerdy's funnel analysis takes a store's category, product, cart, order and thank-you pages as steps, entered as URLs, with the tracking code on every step page. A funnel holds at most seven steps.
Plerdy's FAQ gives /products/, /cart/, /checkout/ and /thanks/ as example paths. Plerdy's pricing page has no funnel row and names no plan for funnel analysis.
Product and cart pages: what the heatmap and cart report show
Open the heatmap of the step that loses most. On a product page, Plerdy's heatmap page names two patterns to look for: price, call-to-action or shipping details that most visitors never scroll down to, and an Add to Cart button they pass over while clicking the product image. Shopify's Sessions by device report shows which devices visit, and Plerdy's heatmaps compare mobile and desktop behavior. Plerdy's FAQ describes a cart report: add something to your cart, then open Heatmaps in your Plerdy account and pick the cart report from the table there.
E-commerce tracking gives each page element a purchase value, and Plerdy's Ecommerce Analytics page labels an element's link to purchases as correlation, not cause. Plerdy's Ecommerce Analytics page says Shopify purchases are picked up automatically, while its FAQ and its older tracking guide tell store owners to add a code snippet to the thank-you page; check which applies in your Plerdy account.
Checkout: recordings and errors
Plerdy's replay page lists cart and checkout among the places where recordings show errors, hesitation, repeated clicks and drop-off triggers, and its Shopify listing lists Checkout under Works with. Typed form values are blocked and not shown in a recording. Error monitoring lists broken pages, failed checkouts and form issues, with the last visitor action before the error. In Shopify, each payment attempt on an abandoned checkout appears as a payment event in its timeline.
Adding the tools to a Shopify store
Microsoft Clarity installs through the Shopify app Microsoft Clarity: AI Insights: install it, make sure the Clarity JS is toggled on and save. Microsoft says the dashboard needs a few hours to fill, and for Shopify Plus stores checkout and post-checkout pages are tracked through Shopify's Pixel.
Plerdy installs on Shopify through its own app, and its funnel analysis shows the step where visitors stop; best heatmap tool for Shopify compares it with the other apps.
The Plerdy Shopify app lists a 14-day free trial on Startup, Scale and Thrive, and bills in USD every 30 days. Plerdy Shopify covers the app, and Plerdy's own guide documents the manual route of pasting the script before the closing body tag in theme.liquid.
Shopify's reports are enough when you only need the step. A heatmap or recording tool answers the next question, why visitors left that page. Website traffic but no sales covers the same steps for other platforms.
